About Me

Welcome! I’m a naturopathic doctor, avid reader, foodie and perpetual optimist. I believe that healthy doesn’t have to be boring. I created The Natural Path to encourage inspire those who want to look and feel as amazing as they are.

My Journey:
When I was in college I became interested in health and nutrition. Based on popular belief I thought I was eating healthy because I chose fat-free and splenda-laden foods, ate my peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich on whole wheat bread, made it a goal to eat a whopping 2-3 servings of fruit and veggies per day (at least 2 of which ended up being fruit), and worked out excessively to maintain a healthy body weight. I also habitually suffered from debilitating stomachaches, eczema, acne, low blood sugar and sugar cravings.  Two things you could always be sure to find in my purse: chocolate and Pepto-Bismol.

But college wasn’t all a disaster I also found a love for biology, biochemistry and cooking which ultimately lead me on a journey to become a naturopathic doctor.  Fast forwarding (past all of the PB and marshmallow sandwiches) to graduation nearing I knew I wanted to be a doctor and started looking into my options.

I started shadowing primary care doctors at UNRs medical center and wow did I rethinking being a doctor real quick. Office visits were 10 minutes (if the patient was lucky) and everyone walked out with a prescription and/or cortisone shot to suppress their symptom’s. Everything about the experience was unsettling and I realized I wanted to be able to have a bigger impact on my patient’s quality of life so I started looking into alternative medicine and found naturopathic medicine.

I was drawn by the philosophy of finding the root cause of disease and the emphasis on prevention. I was particularly drawn by the herbal medicine and nutrition programs. Having spent most of my time exploring the outdoors as a child I’ve always been amazed by the wonder of herbal medicine, the fact that the earth provides us with remedies for all that ails us.  The study of nutrition was equally as attractive, I’ve always loved food and had independently studied nutrition.

A few months into medical school I had healed my gut (no more pepto!) which healed my skin and was actually eating healthy (wow what a difference real food makes) which resolved my hypoglycemia and sugar addiction. On this journey my passion for natural health and wellness flourished.  I’m looking forward to sharing this passion and knowledge with you as you start or continue your journey to optimal.
